In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China’s exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.
The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as “CSC”), entrusted by China’s Ministry of Education, is responsible for the admission, enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship recipients.
There are two ways (Type A and Type B) for you to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship. A student may either apply through the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate and dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home countries or directly through Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT).
Scholarship Categories—Type A
Type A applicant may either apply through the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate and dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home countries or directly through Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT). Application Time should contact the local Chinese embassy/consulate or dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home countries.
Application Process:
①Apply to the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate or the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for Chinese Government Scholarship opportunity；
②Apply to Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications through online application (https://cqupt.17gz.org/ ) for the Pre-admission Letter once recommended by the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate or the dispatching authorities as an eligible candidate. (All subjects are available for international students)

③Submit all of your application documents to the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate or the dispatching authorities of your home country before the application deadline.
Scholarship Categories—Type B
To apply through Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications directly. The Agency Number of CQUPT is 10617.
Supporting Categories
Master Programs: 3 years
Doctoral Programs: 4 years
Scholarship Coverage:
Full scholarship
1. Tuition fees;
2. University dormitory (twin room);
3. Comprehensive medical insurance;
4. Stipend:
Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;
Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.
Partial scholarship
One or some items of the full scholarship.
Application Prerequisites
1) be a citizen of a country other than the PRC and in good health both mentally and physically;
2) be an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master’s program;
3) be an academically excellent holder of a Master’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program;
4) Language Proficiency Requirement:
Ø English-taught programs: IELTS≧6.5 or TOEFL≧80 or equivalent or Native English speakers. Applicants who could not provide the above mentioned English test results will be required to attend the English test organized by CQUPT in May.
Ø Chinese-taught programs：HSK 4 or above. Applicants who have HSK 5 or above can apply for the major study directly, those who have HSK 4 can apply to take Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.
5) Do not obtain other scholarships.
Application Procedure
Step 1
Complete the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students: https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/. The Agency Number of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunication is 10617. Please choose program category —Type B Application, then fill in the application form online. After submission, download Application Form, print a hard copy and sign it.
Step 2
Complete the online application procedure at CQUPT International Student Service System: https://cqupt.17gz.org. Please choose your program: The Chinese government scholarship, and upload the required documents and then submit online application form. High网上申请指南 Guide for Online Application.pdf
Application documents
1). Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form
2). Diploma and certificate of highest education;
Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
3). Official academic transcripts;
Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be
attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English;
4). A Research Proposal;
Including research title, introduction with research question, literature review, methodology, reference ect; must be in Chinese or English; for master candidates: no less than 1000 words; for doctoral students: no less than 1500 words)
5). Curriculum Vitae(CV).
Including personal information, educational background, research interest, research experience, papers and publishers, honors and certificates ect.
6）A Study Plan.
Including purpose of study and plan during graduate study and after graduation.
7). Two recommendation letters
signed by a professor or an associate professor（written in Chinese or English. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad;
8). Copy of Valid Passport (expire date later than 30th, December 2025) and Passport size Photo;
9). The record of study or employment in China if you have ever studied or worked in China;

written in English and must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan the physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.
11). Non-criminal Record; The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
12). Certificate of language proficiency. A copy of HSK results or IELTS or TOEFL results or Chinese Language or English study certificate (if available);
13). Pre-admission Letter issued by CQUPT. The university will issue Pre-admission documents to applicants who pass the interview and be in the recommendation list.
14). Other documents (if available).
Please note:
1) The acceptance letter from the CQUPT supervisor is NOT required. Therefore, it is unnecessary to contact with the university’s professor for the acceptance letter.
2) We will contact you by email after we received your application documents. Please ensure that an accurate phone number, email address and mailing address (including postcode, city name) are provided.
3) In addition to the above application documents, the university has the right to require the applicant to provide other materials if it is necessary.
Others
1) The Scholarship will not be reserved if the recipient cannot register in CQUPT before the registration deadline (The registration time will be notified on the admission notice).
2) The Scholarship recipients shall not change their host university, field of study, or duration of study unless they give up the scholarship.
3) The Scholarship qualification will be reviewed annually. The scholarship could be suspended or canceled if you fail to pass the annual review.
