Admission criteria
To enter Monash University, students must satisfy particular academic, English language and age requirements.
To apply for the PhD program at Monash University, Indonesia, you must have completed:
- a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from Monash University, requiring at least four years of full-time study, which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours degree at H1 or H2A level, or
- a course leading to a master’s preliminary qualification at a level rated by the relevant department, school and committee as equivalent to an honours class 1 or 2A degree, or
- a master’s degree that entails work normally including a significant reserach component, including at least 25% of one full time equivalent year of work including a thesis. It is normally expected that a grade of honours 2A has been obtained for the research thesis or project. Where ungraded, examiners’ reports will be taken into account; or
- have qualifications which in the opinion of the research committee are deemed equivalent.
Find supervisors and propose your project

Please also identify how your PhD will be funded. Beside IIDSP scholarship and Self-funded, organizations outside of Monash University, Indonesia such as LPDP and BPI (Beasiswa Pendidikan Indonesia) also provide funding to support your PhD journey.
Before connecting with a supervisor, please be sure to prepare following documentation to introduce yourself. Prepare the following:
- a CV highlighting your previous academic research achievements
- the relevance of your project proposal to your supervisor
- your motivation why you want to complete a PhD with Monash University, Indonesia
- a document with an abstract for a project proposal
- details of the source of funding for your PhD project
You have identified a suitable supervisor and prepared all your documents?

Due to the high volume of inquiries, kindly note that supervisors might only be able to respond to suitable applicants.
If you have gained the support of a supervisor for your proposed project, you will receive a list of documents to submit an expression of interest.
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
Once you have identified your supervisors and research project of interest in the research area of your choice, candidates must submit their EOI together with the relevant supporting documents. Candidates and their prospective supervisors should plan and prepare their EOI documentation, prior to submission.
Please note the submission of the EOI does not constitute a formal application for a Research Degree.
Obtain an Invitation to Apply
Applicants whose EOI is successful will then receive an Invitation to Apply from the Research Management Office.
Please note that the Research Management Office receives a high volume of enquiries from potential students and it may take up to four weeks to receive a response.
Lodge a Formal Application
After you have received an Invitation to Apply from the Research Management Office you can then proceed to submit an application.
PhD Program overview
The Monash doctoral (PhD) program consists of an extensive, independent research project in your field of choice, supported by a minimum of two academic supervisors throughout your PhD candidature. Your study will result in a research thesis, which makes a valuable contribution to the current body of knowledge in your chosen field of study.
