APPLY NOW! CHILD RIGHTS AND COMMUNITY INSTITUTE PROGRAM 2024
The Child Rights and Community Institute Program (CRIP), an
initiative of the Community Children’s Rights Institute (CRI), with
support from the McArthur Foundation is dedicated to empowering
young people as advocates for children’s rights. This fellowship
aims to equip individuals with the knowledge, tools, and skills
necessary to effectively advocate for the rights of disadvantaged
children and drive sustainable community development. CRIP is
specifically designed for those passionate about addressing the
inequalities faced by children as a result of eroded accountability
in child protection services.
Fellows will focus on tackling systemic issues such as:
- Lack of access to education
- Lack of access to health care
- And protection from abuse
The fellowship offers participants a
comprehensive learning experience
that combines advocacy, research,
and hands-on community
engagement.
Program highlights
Geopolitical Focus: Fellows from all geopolitical zones of Nigeria will be
selected, ensuring diverse representation from different regions.
Community Problem Solving: Fellows will come into the program with one
specific issue affecting children in their community. They will be trained to
use advocacy and mobilization skills to develop solutions and bring these
issues to policy discussions.
Virtual Learning: Fellowship orientations will occur virtually over eight
weeks via a designated online learning platform, providing flexible access to
participants from different areas.
Project Development: Throughout the fellowship, CRI will collaborate with
fellows to develop their projects, guiding them from the idea stage to policy
action.
Internship Opportunity: The most successful fellows, those who have solved
critical problems or initiated effective actions, will be offered an internship,
providing further practical experience.
Policy Drafting: Fellows will work on creating policy drafts addressing
key children’s rights issues in their communities. These drafts can then be
presented to Federal or State governments for potential implementation.
Duration and length of the program
The fellowship program spans 8 weeks of intensive learning and
10 months post internship engagement. Each week focuses
on a specific theme, such as child rights, advocacy strategies,
research methods, gender based violence, and communication
skills. Fellows will engage in tasks, workshops, and hands-on
learning aimed at helping them develop practical solutions for
their communities.
After the initial 8-week training, fellows will continue their
advocacy in action until graduation, allowing them to put their
newly gained knowledge and skills into action.
