Trefoil helps children and young people, families, or small groups in Scotland who meet our needs criteria. Trefoil supports many activities, mainly in sports, art, music, life skills, and adventure.

 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ORGANISATIONAL GRANTS
Eligibility:
Trefoil welcomes applications from the following types of organisations:
1. formally constituted and registered charities; and
2. organisations which are not charities and whose aims are to provide education,
health and social welfare.
All applicant organisations must be able to demonstrate their financial propriety, solvency
and two years of audited/independently inspected accounts. Projects will only be
considered if the beneficiaries are 1) based in Scotland or if the project benefits young
Scottish people with additional support needs; 2) All beneficiaries are young people with
additional support needs, which may be psycho/social or of a physical nature which
impacts upon their development.
Disqualification: Trefoil will not consider applications where the following conditions
exist:
― organisations with a turnover above £500,000;
― commercial organisations or purposes; or
― agencies or purposes which should be supported by statutory funding for the
purpose for which the application is made.
Purpose:
The purpose of the grant should be to support young people with additional
support needs, both physical and mental, in order to improve their independence,
community relations, education, or social and moral development.
Structure: The grants will be provided to organisations. The project or event should be
structured in order to provide an evaluation criterion which is agreed in advance of the
award. The criteria must be mutually agreed between Trefoil and the organisation. The
level of the award will be at the discretion of the Trefoil trustees and will only be subject
to appeal under extreme circumstances.
Types of eligible projects: Trefoil offers funding to organisations who align with the
charity’s objective: to better the lives of young people with additional support
needs.
The plan must be sound operationally and financially and supported by sound analysis.
The applicant must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of sound financial and
operational management by the provision of audited/independently inspected accounts
and annual reports.
Trefoil will consider funding projects which:
― promote education, health and social welfare;
― encourage team building activities;
― provide education;
― provide therapeutic activities which are not funded by the statutory authorities;
and
― are new development and start up costs.
Exclusions: Trefoil will not provide funding for the following:
― salaries or subsistence costs except as entirely incidental to a specific project
and to the extent proportionate to other funding;
― core property costs which support the administration of the organisation e.g. rent,
lease, legal;
― disbursement to other agencies;
― core administration costs; or
― general appeals.
Notes:
Trefoil grants are discretionary, and the trustees reserves the right not to enter into
dialogue or correspondence with unsuccessful applicants.
A previously successful application does not guarantee repeat funding.
