Applications are now open for the 2024 BackPack Excellence Scholarship. The BackPack Excellence Scholarship offers interested and qualified women the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in Switzerland. The BackPack Excellence Scholarship provides a transformational experience through the IMD MBA program, enabling women to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential in their careers and communities with the expenses of tuition and living allowances covered.
The scholarship aims to provide a transformational experience to talented and driven women who have been forced to flee conflict, natural disaster, or persecution at some point in their lives, and may have believed that an MBA program was out of reach. Through this scholarship, the Swiss Foundation intends to help women obtain the leadership skills they need to advance in business or public life and fulfill their leadership ambitions. The BackPack Excellence Scholarship award covers both tuition and living expenses.

Who is eligible to apply?
To be considered for the 2024/2025 BackPack Excellence Scholarship, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be women who have experienced significant hardship and disruptions in their professional journeys. This includes situations such as:
- Forced displacement due to conflict, natural disaster, or persecution.
- Family obligations that have impacted career progression.
- Financial constraints limiting access to education.
- In addition to these specific criteria, applicants will need to meet the standard IMD MBA admission requirements, which include a strong academic background, professional experience, and demonstrated leadership potential.
- Demonstrate excellence in previous academic and/or professional endeavors, including GPA (or equivalent) and GMAT/GRE
- Convince us of your ambition and ability to use your education to pursue a leadership role
- Career progression and international exposure
- Ability to contribute to the overall learning experience of the class
- Performance during the Assessment Day
- Essay: “Tell us how, as a displaced women, an MBA at IMD will be transformative for you and indirectly for other women in your community, and what are your main learning objectives.” (500 words)
- Priority will be given to talented and driven women who may have believed that an MBA program was out of reach due to limitations and disruptions in their professional path. These may include family obligations, forced migration and financial constraints.
BackPack Excellence Scholarship Application Process
To apply for the 2024/2025 BackPack Excellence Scholarship, complete the Scholarships and Bursaries form found under the Financial Planning section of your MBA application form. Ensure you submit your academic records, professional experiences, test scores, and other required documents.
Alongside your MBA application, you’ll need to submit a separate application for the BackPack Excellence Scholarship. You are also required to submit an essay: “Tell us how, as a displaced women, an MBA at IMD will be transformative for you and indirectly for other women in your community, and what are your main learning objectives.” (500 words.
Note: You may apply for multiple scholarships, however, scholarships are non-cumulative, therefore you will not be selected for more than one. in addition. scholarships are reserved for those who are not sponsored by their company.
