PhD Student in Molecular Ecology: The Department of Ecology and Genetics at Uppsala University is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of PhD Student in Molecular Ecology. The successful candidate will contribute to the Animal Ecology program, focusing on the microbiomes of wild animals, with a special emphasis on the Scandinavian wolverine. This is a full-time, temporary position based in Uppsala, Sweden.

Eligibility/Qualification: To be eligible for this position, candidates must:
Hold a Master’s (second-cycle) degree in ecology, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, genetics, or a related field.
Have completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at the Master’s level, including an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or possess substantially equivalent knowledge through other means.
Job Description: The PhD student will focus on analyzing the microbiomes of wild animals, particularly the Scandinavian wolverine, using modern DNA sequencing techniques, including metabarcoding. Duties include conducting research and studies within the subject area, with a significant focus on DNA metabarcoding data analyses and establishing communication with zoological parks for sample retrieval. The candidate will be responsible for writing scientific manuscripts, presenting results at international conferences, and actively participating in the research group’s activities. Additionally, the role involves training master students and contributing to collaborative research projects.
Qualifications Required:
Master’s degree in relevant field
Highly motivated with an interest in molecular ecology
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficient in spoken and written English
Qualifications Desired:
Experience in R programming language, bioinformatics, and genetic analyses (valuable, but not mandatory)
Interest in conservation genetics and animal microbiomes
