ACECoR scholarships are now available to interested African students. The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) invites qualified national, regional and international applicants into its MPhil and PhD degree programmes. Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) is established under the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) for Development Impact Project.
ACECoR scholarships are hosted by the Centre for Coastal Management, University of Cape Coast, Ghana and their major goal is to support the technical and scientific capacity development of young African professionals in order to address issues of coastal degradation, as well as promote the sustainable utilization and management of marine and coastal assets within the sub-region.
The objectives of ACECoR scholarships are to:
- Enhance capabilities of young African scholars in the thematic areas of Coastal Geomorphology and Engineering, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Disaster Risk Management and Migration, Ecosystems and Biodiversity Science and Blue Economy, Governance and Social resilience.
- Provide demand-driven applied research data and innovation for relevant industries and sectors in the above themes.
- Develop regional data support systems on marine and coastal issues.
- Create multi-sectoral networks for marine and coastal for an integrated approach to resolving coastal degradation in West Africa.
- Provide career development for faculty through an international exchange programme and in-service training.
Who is eligible to apply?
ACECoR scholarships are available to:
- All African nationals who meet the admission requirements of the University of Cape Coast. See requirements for ACECoR scholarship MPhil and PhD degree programmes here
- Applicants who demonstrate academic excellence, motivation, and potential and also possess proficient language skills.
Note: There are no restrictions based on gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, disability and political orientation of the candidates. However, priority will be given to female applicants as well as applicants from West and Central African countries.
ACECoR Scholarships application process
Apply for ACECoR scholarships by providing all the required forms, documents and information as specified in the admissions criteria section. Independent assessments are then conducted on all eligible applications by the academic advisory board of ACECoR following criteria including academic excellence, relevant academic background etc. Applicants who score 70% or higher in the Independent assessment are shortlisted for the interview and details of the date and time are communicated through email.
