Passion: the Key to Unlimited Possibilities
By Gospel Okoro
The world, like a baby, rests on the sweaty palm of the youths. If not carried properly may slip away, into destruction. This goes further by way of implication that the actions of the youths goes a long way to make or mar the future.
To buttress this is to borrow the words of Graça Mache, a great youth who walked the face of Mother Earth, who said: “preventing the conflicts of tomorrow means changing the mindset of the youths today.” In the light of that statement is the truthful reality of the importance of the actions of youths, yet again, formed by mindset. And actions of these youths are shrouded in the secret weapon of passion; another vital aspect of one’s mindset.
Passion is the liquid flame that burns in the heart of a man. It is the indescribable energy that flows out in the veins. It is the ‘spinal cord’ of a man’s life. Passion is all there is to life. And, this secret weapon is hidden in the minds of youths, which should be harnessed to bring out their best.
The unending possibilities locked up in the minds of the youths can only be unlocked by the key of passion. A person finds out that all he seeks to achieve in his mind can become a reality, only if he backs his action with passion. This is one alluring characteristic of the youths – they tend to do the impossible, explore the hidden and unmask the mysteries.
All the desires and pursuits of a man are mostly done in his youth. No wonder Joseph Joubett said: “the passions of the young are vices in the old“. The things they do now cannot be entirely done in the old age; the feats, heights and distances, cannot be done in the old age. Even the greatest youth in the history of the world, before and after, Jesus Christ, admonished in the Bible on the need to utilize the ‘day’ which is the youth as ‘night’ which connotatively stands for old age would come and when it does, no man can be able to work effectively.
This is why the conducive time to effect the change we so desire in the world is now that you’re still a youth. As a youth, you’re filled with so much energy and curiosity – two important ingredients to cooking unlimited possibilities. Channel them. Utilize them. If we all sit back and rest on the ‘labours of heroes past,’ there would never be a future generation to sing ‘the labours of heroes past,’ for your generation. Get up; get going!
Passion is doing what you love doing. No matter how small those actions are, as long as they contribute positively to the society, keep doing them. Passion is your one plug away from fear, failure and falling. When others are drawing back, passion pushes you further and higher. Won’t you like to be on the top when your mates are below? Get passion today!
Passion is the fuel that drives you to do the impossible. Even the word impossible says I’m-possible, which means there is nothing that cannot be achieved. For instance, in 1901, authorities deduced that ‘no possible combination can be united into practical machine by which men shall fly.’ But, years later, we can see the Wright brothers changing that trend. They had passion to change that trend. If you have passion, you can change that trend and do something new – unlocking unlimited possibilities. Don’t forget that these impossibilities are possibilities in disguise. Impossibility is simply something nobody has done until somebody does it. There is no other force than passion that makes a man to do such ‘disguised impossibilities.’
Conceive that positive idea in your mind, today. No matter how big it is, it is possible. No matter how small it is, it is possible. If you decide to remain under the feet of de-feat, nothing good happens. When others are saying ‘can I?’ You say, ‘I can!’ Of course, passion would still keep you trying when you fail; passion would pick you up and dust you when you fall; passion would clothe you in the garment of faith and courage when you fear; passion would keep you moving in the vehicle of time to your destination – unlimited possibilities. With passion, there is nothing you can’t achieve.
So, youths advance! Step out of the line; break out of the box; quench the limitation in your imagination. Remember, the world, like a baby rests on your sweaty palm, would you lead them into new positive changes or you’ll let them slip back into archaic ways? The ball is in your court!
