NANS’ officials visit Ejike in the hospital
The National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) has appealed to kind-hearted Nigerians, corporate bodies and governments at all levels to assist Mr Ejike Emeka, who needs N4 million for a grade 1 surgery.
NANS’s President, Mr Chinonso Obasi, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that Emeka, a student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike(MOUAU) was involved in a motor accident on Nov. 20.
He said that Emeka, a first class student, was enroute to Lagos for the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) when the incident occurred at Ihiala Anambra State.
“Following that, he was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital Ihiala where he received his first Aid treatment.
“After receiving his first aid, he was thereafter transferred to Federal Medical Center Umuahia for further medical examination and treatment.
“Consequently, he was again referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku Ozalla on the Nov. 24 at about 7pm where he was received by Dr Chikeani Iloabuchie with Hospital number (833255) into the Neurosurgery Ward.
“His clinical History revealed that he looks healthy with no observed distress but was unable to move the limbs and arms, hence a radiological scan was recommended.’’
He said that Emeka was further referred to m MEMFYS Hospital located at Km 2 Enugu Onitsha Express way for neurosurgery.
Obasi said that examination at MEMFYS showed an unstable comminuted fracture of 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae C4 & C5 + C4-5 intervertebral disc with grade 1 C4-C5 Spondylolisthesis and retropulsion of fragments.
“In line with the above radiological findings, Ejike has been recommended for a GRADE-1 surgery which will cost over N4million.
“His parents and family cannot afford this; hence we plead with all good spirited Nigerians, corporate organisations, the entire public, government’s at all levels to assist the family and the entire student’s community to raise this funds in facilitating his surgical session,’’ he said.
He said that for any financial assistance to Ejike, payments should be made into his father’s bank account- UBA PLC, Okoro Kingsley Ejike, 2025822373.
Obasi said that donors could also contact the management of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku- Ozalla, Enugu State for further enquiries.
The NANS president expressed optimism that Nigerians would lend their support in saving the life of an exceptional future leader who was in dire need of help.
