Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) and
International Development Research Center, Canada (IDRC) offer
Scholarships and Fellowships for citizens of the following Asian
countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and
Vietnam). Scholarships and fellowships are available to visit IGIDR for
a period of 12 months (extendable to a maximum of another 12 months) to
undertake doctoral and postdoctoral research in any field within
Economics, with a special focus on Labor Market and Industrial Policy.
The aims and objectives of the Institute are to promote and conduct
research on developmental issues from a broad inter- disciplinary
perspective (economic, technological, social, political and ecological).
Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an
advanced research institute established and fully funded by the Reserve
Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a
multi-disciplinary point of view.
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a Canadian
Crown corporation established in 1970 to help developing countries find
solutions to their problems.
Course Level: Scholarships and fellowships are
available to visit IGIDR for a period of 12 months (extendable to a
maximum of another 12 months) to undertake doctoral and postdoctoral
research in any field within Economics, with a special focus on Labor
Market and Industrial Policy.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships and fellowships are awarded in the field of labor market and industrial policy.
Scholarship Award:
-Selected Masters applicant will receive IDRC funded scholarships that
include: monthly scholarship of INR 10000, Medical Coverage of INR 25000
per year, and one time travel grant up to a maximum of INR 50000.
-Selected M.Phil applicant will receive IDRC funded fellowships that
include: a monthly stipend of INR 17000/- in the first two years,
Medical coverage of INR 25000 per year, one time travel grant up to a
maximum of INR 50000, applicable book grant and possible one time
conference travel funding.
-Selected visiting doctoral applicant will be paid INR 26000 a month
towards scholarship, One round trip travel expense up to a maximum of
INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of INR 25000, and allowable book grant
and travel support for conference travel.
-Selected postdoctoral applicants will be paid a fellowship of INR 50000
per month, One round trip travel expense up to a maximum of INR 50000,
fixed medical coverage of INR 25000, book grant of INR 50000, Research
grant of INR 100000, and conference travel support up to a maximum of
INR 150000.

Eligibility:
-Minimum qualification for admission to
M.Sc. programme includes one of the following degrees or their
equivalents: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Economics/Bachelor
of Commerce/Bachelor of Statistics/Bachelor of Science in Physics or
Mathematics/Bachelor of Technology/Bachelor of Engineering, with at
least a Second Class/Division for Economics discipline and First
Class/Division for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied
Mathematics at the higher secondary (12 years School Leaving
Examination) or higher level.
-Minimum qualification for
admission to the M.Phil. programme includes one of the following degrees
or their equivalents: Master of Arts/Master of Science in
Economics/Master of Statistics/Master of Science in Physics or
Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research/Master of
Business Administration/Master of Technology/Master of
Engineering/Bachelor of Technology (4 years or above programs)/Bachelor
of Engineering (4 years or above programs) with at least 55% aggregate
marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for all other
disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher
secondary (12 years School Leaving Examination) or higher level.
-The visiting doctoral applicants
should possess a Masters degree in any field and be registered for
Ph.D. on a topic broadly involving any area of economics at any of the
universities/accredited academic programs located in above target Asian
countries.
-The postdoctoral applicants,
preferably within the age limit of 35 years, should be either fresh PhD
(within two years of successful submission of their dissertations) or
junior faculty, who have submitted their Ph.D. dissertations or obtained
Ph.D. degrees with an outstanding academic training and record in the
broad area of Economics, and particularly, Inclusive Development with
special emphasis on Labor Markets and Industrial Policy.
Nationality: Scholarship is open for citizens of the
following Asian countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka,
Thailand and Vietnam.
Number of award(s):
-Maximum of five scholarships per academic year for M.Sc. (Economics)
-Maximum of three fellowships per academic year for M.Phil. (Development Studies)
-Three fellowships per academic year to support visiting doctoral applicants
-Two postdoctoral fellowships to support postdoctoral applicants
