TCN energises second Asaba-Benin 330kv transmission line
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it had successfully energised the second Asaba-Benin 330kv power transmission line.
A statement by TCN General Manager (Public Affairs), Mrs Ndidi Mbah, in Abuja on Thursday said the line was energised on Nov. 3.
TCN said the newly energised Asaba-Benin transmission line would provide alternative source of energy to the Asaba 330kv substation.
According to TCN, the project, which is in line with Federal Government’s strategy on incremental power will add 600mw transmission capacity to its transmission network.
The company said construction of the line was completed in Oct 22 , 2016, but was finally inaugurated after TCN engineers completed the relay settings at the Asaba and Benin end of the transmission line.
“The commissioning into service of the new transmission line brings to three, the number of 330kv transmission lines from Onitsha axis to Benin.
“These three lines have the capacity to carry 600mw each and with the new line, the total capability of the 330kv transmission lines on Benin axis has increased from 1200mw to 1800mw,” she said.
TCN said that the line was providing alternate route for power flow from Benin to Onitsha.
It said the line would also assist to ensure system stability, flexibility and redundancy on the route.
“This means that TCN can transmit more power on this route and tripping of one of the lines will not affect power transmission in the area.“
TCN said it would continue to invest in the expansion of the nation’s grid, adding that that it was currently constructing several transmission lines and new substations in several locations.(NAN)
