The Capacity Building Committee of the Faculty of the Social Sciences held her inaugural Symposium/ Capacity Building Programme yesterday Tuesday, 1st June, 2021 at Prof. B.I.C Ijoma Building, Department of Sociology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The progamme was a huge success and some dignitaries such as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic (Prof. Johnson Urama), Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences( Prof. A.M.N Okolie), among others were in attendance.
The Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Chidi Ugwu, in his opening remarks emphasized that the symposium (which would run in series) is aimed at building the capacity of the Faculty members in order to make them more internationally competitive and well equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century as lecturers and researchers.
The Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, Prof. A.M.N Okolie equally welcomed all the participants and encouraged them to be committed to the capacity building workshop which would run in series as earlier emphasized by the Chairman, Dr. Chidi Ugwu. The Dean reiterated that his administration is clearly focused on Capacity Building, Students/Staff Welfare and Infrastructural development in the faculty, among others. He requested that everybody should play active roles to support his administration and ensure that the Faculty of the Social Sciences University of Nigeria, Nsukka remains a shining star among other faculties in the University and across the globe.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Johnson Urama was equally elated by the noble initiative and encouraged all the Faculty Members to avail themselves of this golden opportunity to build the required capacity needed as Academics. He used his own experiences and advised all staff members to be innovative and creative in their approach because the world is dynamic and things are changing rapidly.
